How we do it
Block-printing
Hand-carved blocks are used to print on fabric, creating patterns with unique variations that no machine can imitate.
Dabu
The mud-resist dye technique where mud is printed to fabric, dried, and then dyed with indigo. This process originated in the village of Akola, located in the Mewar Kingdom.
Herbal dyes
When it comes to color, we look no further than the natural substances commonly found in our homes and gardens. Indigo, turmeric, and pomegranate peals—among many other foods, plants, and herbs—are coaxed to release their vibrant hues. In an industry infamous for its toxic chemicals and waste, we choose to use only materials and processes that leave a positive impact on the environment.
Zero-waste
Another benefit to handmade, traditional processes is that it can be produced sustainably. We collect all scraps to be repurposed into other products.
Why handmade
Machines offer precision and efficiency, but what is lost along the way? You often hear people talk about the benefits of a slow-cooked meal, how it allows the flavors to develop and blend in a way that transforms the dish. We believe the same thing is true for textiles. The time, elements, and people that come together to create our products imbue personality and richness into each and every item. They leave a story and history as dye and design transform raw materials into precious objects. The handmade process also allows spontaneity and collaboration to occur, the moments mimic the surprises that make life so interesting!
